Immersions in the phenomena of feeling - collaborations with landscape

These images document fieldwork and immersions in landscape that formed the phenomenological foundation of my PhD project titled Subtle bodies: transcorporeal becoming in threshold realms completed in 2022. During this research I developed sensitised relationships with the temporal threshold of dusk, and the spatial threshold of the South Australian desert in the Vulkathunha-Gammon Ranges. Here I explored the qualities, tones and temporalities that constitute the fabric of relations between the sensing being and their environment. These photographs show my engagement with the environment through materials and artworks, which were activated by land and atmosphere, interpreting them in their own unique ways.

These performative engagements in landscape allowed me to explore and reframe my perception within it by reaching into it differently through material. In particular I was interested in seeing how less visible aspects of the environment might be made visible and felt through material, and how they would transform and animate the material itself.

These experiences precipitated in visual, felt, and affective ways, the networking between self and environment, the breath-like, perceptive and energetic flow across the boundaries of self and other.
